Pashto Tips and Books - For CSS & PMS Candidates

This thread contains few handy tips and notes for Pashto for CSS and PMS students.

Salam, all. Hope you are doing great. Lets divide the subject in different portions according the syllabus.

1. ترجمہ.
د پښتو عبارت په انګریزي کي
د انګرېزي/اردو عبارت په پښتو کي
This area needs more exercise. Translation of paragraphs of past papers (both CSS and PCS) is necessary. Aspirants can also consult Pashto, Urdu and English BBC news. Word to word translation is not appreciated, rather figurative language should be used. Aspirants should also download the app Nan Asiya (نن آسيا ) which discusses divers things like news, poetry, sometimes stories etc.

It is to clarify here that sometimes questions are narrowed down to a certain facet of a poet's poetry like RAZMIYA SHAIRI OF KHOSHAL BABA, while sometimes a poet's contribution to the language is asked. More often, general question on the poetry of a poet is asked. Pohana is the best source for OLD AND NEW POETRY.
For local poets as well as different concepts of Pashtun Zwak like JIRGA, MARAKA, aspirants should read books, ADABI LARA and Hasan Khan Atal's book.
د پښتو ادب هينداره
=د اشعارو تشریح
In this portion, sometimes aspirants make mistake by explaining the complete set of poetic lines in one paragraph. They should explain two lines in one paragraph /explanation. It secures more marks.
3. د متلونو ترجمه
=له پښتو سه په انګریزي کي
او له انګریزي سه په پښتو کي
These are asked in CSS. Here again word to word translation is not correct.
In POHANA book there are many proverbs given both in Pashto and English.
=د متلونو وضاحت او پس منظر
In PCS exam sometimes these areas are asked. Explanation of given MATAL are asked and background of any five. There are few MATAL given in ADABI LARA with background and explanation.
4. اولسي ادب
In this area, sometimes general question is asked on olasi adab. More important here is comprehensive note on TAPA. ټپه
5. مضمون او پښتو ادب په بلوچستان کي.
In PCS paper, usually the topic given for essay writing are from current affairs, role of media in Pashto adab. One important question often asked in PCS paper is Paahtu Adab in Baluchistan. Aspirants should discuss in paper the hurdles faced by Pashto language, culture and literature and the steps taken so far in promoting Pashto literature. These include PTV bolan, radio programmes, Pashto academy, pashtu department in Uob, works of literary figures and MUSHAIRA programmes.
Yet another question asked is, threats or challenges to pashtu literature and Pashtun culture. For this, the best book authored by ARIF TABASSUM is

6. پښتونولي
This question is often asked both in PCS and CSS. Pashtunwali is the unwritten Pashton constitution and Pashtun's way of life.
7. پښتو نثر
Origin and evolution of Pashto Nasar especially drama (ډرامه)
8. د الفاظو په جملو کي استعمال.
In PCS paper, few words are are given to be used in sentences. These words usually are obsolete because they are not used in today's common language.
